JLGB welcomes Sderot group to camp getaway

Sderot teenagers are guests at the Jewish Lads' and Girls' Brigade's national summer camp.

They joined other Israelis and visitors from France and Canada to swell the turnout to over 300 at the 10-day event in Colchester. Participants enjoyed activities ranging from archery to an Apprentice-style challenge.

Brigade chief executive Neil Martin said the Sderot group had "blended in well and made lots of friends. They are not used to such freedom."

Sahar Ziv, 15, told the JC: "I am having a really good time. I have been playing basketball and we have many activities we can do. It's different here because I don't always have to [find] the best place to play that is safe."

Mr Martin added: "We have the facilities to keep bringing them to the UK. We just need community support."
Post-camp, the JLGB will be hosting the Sderot youngsters for a further 10 days. They will be learning about British history and culture and going sightseeing in London.
